Our Story…
Pasha’s Italian restaurant and takeaway has been a part of the Durban North community for many years. Over time locals have frequented the little restaurant with the big menu with regularity, many on the same day each week. Daily specials like Thursdays’ ‘Any Two Posh Pastas’ is what draws them, and customers will often sit in their favourite spot each time. It’s a place where people are known by name, and a place that delivers reliably delicious food.
Robbie and Elna Bachmann, who have lived and worked in the area for 30 years, were patrons of Pasha’s themselves. It was their own go-to pizza place and they knew many of the other diners. So, when the opportunity arose for them to buy the business from the former owner in April 2017, the move was a logical one.
Robbie and Elna are eminently qualified to run an eatery and work well as a team. Robbie is a Swiss Master Chocolatier by trade. He grew up in Davos in Switzerland and was involved in his family’s hotel, restaurant, bakery and dairy from early on.
He went on to study under the Swiss masters and then worked in the hotel industry all over Europe, Asia, and Australia. The first restaurant he opened in Switzerland was followed by a ‘Little Switzerland’ restaurant in Richards Bay, and then a string of restaurants in Durban.
South African born, Elna, studied nutrition and practised as a nutritionist and therapist in learning disabilities. Together with Robbie’s restaurant experience, Elna’s nutrition knowledge has honed the focus of Pasha’s menu. This has meant introducing vegan, banting and gluten-free options, catering for food intolerances, and ensuring the freshest ingredients are used.
Robbie and Elna look forward to serving the community and enticing Pasha’s fare for many years to come.
